Terms & Conditions

Important things to note about lessons with Play The Guitar.

Last updated: 30 September 2026

Fees & payment

  • Lesson fees are charged monthly and in advance for the month.
  • Please note that fees will be charged as normal for December and January and school holidays throughout the year.
  • Lessons at the student's home or school carry an additional travel fee, depending on the distance. This is agreed before lessons start.

Stopping or pausing lessons

  • Students must give 30 days' notice if they wish to stop or pause lessons. The 30-day notice period will be charged for, whether or not the student attends lessons during that period.

Cancellations & catch-up lessons

  • Catch-up lessons can be arranged should the student or teacher miss a lesson due to illness, being away, etc.
  • Play The Guitar requires lessons to be cancelled 24 hours in advance. Lessons cancelled with less than 24-hour notification will still be charged for and no catch-up lesson will be arranged, with exception to cases of emergency.
  • If the student or student's parent is aware that the student will miss a lesson or several lessons, it is important to let the teacher know as soon as possible, to ensure that catch-up lessons can be arranged well in advance.
  • Catch-up lessons can be arranged to be done prior to or after the student is away, for instances such as school holidays or when students are away over December/January. The reason for this is that it directly affects the teacher's salary.
  • Changes based on instrument preference or travel convenience after lessons have commenced are considered a change of personal circumstances and remain subject to the 30-day notice period (see "Stopping or pausing lessons" above).

Lateness & no-shows

  • If the student is late or not available when the lesson is due to start, for reasons other than an emergency, the teacher will wait up to 10 minutes. That time will be deducted from the lesson time.
  • If the teacher is late for a lesson, arrangements will be made to make up the extra time.
  • In cases where the teacher arrives at the lesson or comes online via one of the preferred methods of video call, and the lesson does not take place/student does not come online (e.g. due to the student not being there or any other circumstance that would have required notifying the teacher prior to the lesson taking place), the lesson will be charged for and no catch-up lesson will be arranged.

Instruments & studio setup

  • Lessons conducted at the teacher's studio take place on a full 88-key weighted stage piano (not an acoustic piano). While this is a professional instrument suitable for learning and performance, students or parents who specifically require lessons on an acoustic piano must communicate this in advance.
  • Guitar students are required to bring their own instrument to each lesson. Students are responsible for ensuring their instrument is in working condition.

Bookings & location

  • Travel arrangements and lesson locations are agreed upon prior to commencing lessons. By confirming a booking and making payment, clients acknowledge and accept the lesson setup, instrument requirements, and location.
  • Students with special requirements (for example learning, physical or scheduling needs) are encouraged to contact the teacher before booking to discuss how lessons can best be arranged.
