About Jasmine

Jasmine Green is a vocal coach based in Hermanus with over 10 years of singing and performance experience. She started singing as a child, took her first vocal lessons at age 12, and went on to train with vocal coach Dezi Ray for 8 years before moving into teaching.

Jasmine performs professionally with The Dolls, a Hermanus duo she shares with guitar and piano teacher Callysta van Niekerk. She teaches modern vocal styles including pop, rock, jazz, country, and contemporary singing.

She was inspired to start teaching because she wants to help aspiring singers feel that their dreams are achievable — because everyone needs guidance at some point in their journey.

Jasmine's approach to singing

Lessons are student-led, built on four foundations that make the biggest difference to how you sing.

Breath control & support

One of the first things students learn, and one of the things that makes the biggest difference early on. Proper breath support changes how you sing from day one.

Pitch, tone & ear training

Learning to hear accurately, control your pitch and sing harmonies. These skills develop with practice — they're not something you're simply born with or without.

Singing without strain

Your vocal cords are muscles — they need warming up and proper technique, not pushing. Jasmine teaches you to sing safely, so your voice stays healthy and your range can grow.

Confidence & performance

Stage presence, microphone technique, managing nerves — Jasmine helps students feel confident performing, not just practising.

What makes these lessons different

Jasmine takes the time to understand where you want to go with your singing — who inspires you, why, and what you'd love to be able to do. Lessons aren't just about making progress. They're about feeling seen and growing into the singer you want to become.

There's no strict song list to work through. You choose the songs, and Jasmine builds technique around them. If you're not sure what to work on, you'll pick songs together.

Who singing lessons are for

Children & teens (ages 9+)

A great age to start building good vocal habits. Lessons are adapted to each student's age and confidence level.

Adult beginners

Never sung before? This is the place to learn. With the right guidance, adults can develop their voice at any age.

Performers & advanced singers

Preparing for auditions, performances, or recordings. Jasmine can help with any material you need to work on.

What a lesson actually looks like

Lessons are about 60 minutes. The structure is flexible — if you or your parent/guardian prefer a different split, Jasmine is happy to adjust.

01

Vocal exercises & warmup (≈ 30 min)

The first half focuses on singing exercises — breath support, placement, scales, and technique work. This is what builds your voice over time.

02

Songs & repertoire (≈ 30 min)

The second half is for working on songs you choose. Applying technique to real music — and performing when you're ready.

Common questions about singing

Yes. If you're a good listener and you practise the right material, anyone can learn to sing. Patience and consistency are key.

No. Talent is something developed over time — practising is how you get there.

Around the 8-lesson mark, you'll start noticing a difference — and even sooner if you practise outside of lessons. Learning to sing doesn't happen overnight. Your vocal cords are like every other muscle in your body: you have to exercise them to build them.

Overlooking vocal exercises and jumping straight into singing without warming up. Skipping warmups leads to straining, which means you can't reach notes as effectively — and you risk damaging your vocal cords.

Scales, and any material covered in lessons. Practising scales makes a big difference — it's what strengthens the voice. Additional practice material is available on request.

Ideally, a song you'd like to learn or have already been learning. If you're not sure, Jasmine will help you pick one together.

Completely. Lessons are one-on-one and private. And if performing is something you want to work towards, Jasmine can help with stage presence, nerves and confidence. As she puts it: even if you sing a song 50% perfectly, that's better than not giving yourself the chance.

If singing is something you love and you'd like to be able to do well, lessons are the path to getting there. Everyone needs guidance at some point — a good teacher helps you grow faster and avoid bad habits.
